Sustainability-driven 1 Hotel Melbourne to open in May

True to the 1 Hotels brand, guests can expect an experience inspired by nature, with lush greenery and sustainable practices on show

Sustainability-focused luxury hotel brand, 1 Hotels, is set to make its Australian debut with the opening of 1 Hotel Melbourne in May 2025. Spanning 220 metres of riverfront on the revitalised Northbank precinct, the hotel promises a luxurious wellness retreat in the heart of the city, characterised by biophilic design and sustainability initiatives.

Every one of the 277 guest rooms and 114 branded residences will feature expansive city or river views, complemented by abundant natural light and lush greenery. Like 1 Hotels’ other properties, 1 Hotel Melbourne’s interior design prioritises bringing the outdoors in, with over 2,000 living plants set to be spread throughout the property. 

1 Hotel Melbourne will house the Bamford Wellness Spa, branded with the sustainable English skincare label’s name, and true to the brand’s ethos will offer a holistic approach to rejuvenation with treatments inspired by nature. Guests can also access The Field House, a wellness area equipped with advanced gym equipment, professional trainers, and facilities including a sauna, steam room, jacuzzi, ice baths and an indoor swimming pool.

The hotel will feature a state-of-the-art events centre on the ground floor, opening into a 3,500-square-metre park planted with native flora. Guests will also experience “Happenings,” a curated program of activities celebrating Melbourne’s culture, art and natural beauty. With its position along the Yarra River on the free CBD tram line, the hotel also offers easy access to the city’s vibrant cultural and sporting landmarks.

Since its inception in 2015 by founder Barry Sternlicht, 1 Hotels has championed sustainable luxury, expanding its footprint to North America, London, and China, with planned openings in Paris, Riyadh and other global destinations.
