Australia’s first international 5-star hotel boasts redesigned rooms, a new elevated dining offering and revamped event spaces
Sofitel Sydney Wentworth has revealed its extensive $70 million refurbishment, marking a new chapter for the iconic 5-star hotel as it celebrates Sofitel’s 60th Diamond Jubilee. Originally developed by Qantas in the 1960s as Australia’s premier international 5-star property, Sofitel Sydney Wentworth has been reimagined to bring the hotel up to the high standards of the modern luxury traveller, with a touch 1960s jet-set glamour.
The renovation, led by architecture firm FK, reflects a ‘modern heritage’ approach that honours the hotel’s post-war minimalist origins, particularly in the entrance and lobby areas. The refreshed lobby, designed to echo the hotel’s heritage, now features a sleek bronze façade and ambient lighting that evokes Sofitel’s historic candle-lit guest arrival, and showcases curved joinery and various conversation pits with plush lounges in moody hues and tactile fabrics. Interactive stations in the lobby, along with an online concierge app, allow guests to easily manage their stay.
The property’s 436 rooms and suites, updated with nostalgic design detailing and modern amenities, include Sofitel’s MySmart lighting and bespoke French Balmain amenities. Guests can enjoy wellness features such as an in-room ‘Wellness Bag,’ which includes yoga mats and resistance bands, while the enhanced in-room dining experience, created by House Made Hospitality, invites guests to experience the hotel’s new dining offering without leaving their rooms.
Sofitel Sydney Wentworth’s conference and event offerings include over 15 event spaces, headlined by the 629-square-metre Wentworth Ballroom, one of Sydney’s largest. The exclusive Sofitel Club Millésime lounge, accessible to platinum members of Accor’s ALL program, offers business amenities and all-day dining.
The hotel’s partnership with House Made Hospitality introduces four dining and drinking venues that ave been designed to make Sofitel Sydney Wentworth a go-to dining destination for both hotel guests and the public alike. These include Tilda and Bar Tilda, as well as Delta Rue, which serves Vietnamese-French fusion, and Wentworth Bar, an all-weather terrace bar.
A testament to its historical significance, Sofitel Sydney Wentworth remains known as the ‘Hotel of the Arts,’ sustaining partnerships with the Art Gallery of New South Wales, Opera Australia and the Australian Youth Orchestra. Sofitel Sydney Wentworth is located in Sydney’s CBD near major landmarks and luxury retail areas, making it an ideal hotel for both business and leisure stays.
