The opening of Sindalah – NEOM’s first island destination – marks a significant achievement for the ambitious project, which is part of Saudi Vision 2030’s goals to expand the Kingdom’s luxury tourism offerings

The first physical destination within Saudi Arabia’s expansive NEOM development, Sindalah, has opened, marking a notable milestone for NEOM and Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 tourism commitment to create high-end destinations that appeal to both regional and international tourists.

The transformation of Sindalah – an 840,000-square-metre island located in the Red Sea, five kilometres off the NEOM coastline in northwest Saudi Arabia – took two years, and, at its peak, employed a workforce of 30,000 people. With proximity to Mediterranean routes, the island is within a 17-hour sail for yacht owners from key European and Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) destinations, strategically positioning Sindalah as NEOM’s primary gateway to the Red Sea.

Sindalah was designed by prominent yachting architecture firm, Luca Dini, and is comprised of luxury hotels, dining venues and recreational experiences designed to attract up to 2,400 visitors daily by 2028.

“The realisation of this landmark destination, the gateway to the Red Sea, is due to the visionary leadership of His Royal Highness Mohammed bin Salman and Saudi Vision 2030,” stated Nadhmi Al-Nasr, Chief Executive Officer of NEOM. This is a proud chapter in the NEOM story, and we are excited to achieve more of our ambitious goals, with the continued support of His Royal Highness. NEOM’s inaugural destination offers visitors a ‘first glimpse’ of what the future holds for our extensive portfolio of destinations and developments.”

Sindalah’s waters host an impressive marine ecosystem, featuring 1,100 fish species, including 45 unique to the region, alongside over 300 coral species. NEOM has integrated conservation and sustainability efforts into Sindalah’s development, aiming to protect its natural marine habitat. Visitors are encouraged to explore the underwater environment as part of NEOM’s eco-tourism goals, highlighting the region’s commitment to environmental preservation.

Saudi Arabia aims to establish Sindalah as a premier hub for yachting and the sailing community. To that end, Sindalah boasts an 86-berth marina, supported by docking facilities and offshore buoys, along with the Sindalah Yacht Club. Designed by Stefano Ricci, the Yacht Club will provide a suite of services for yacht owners, guests and crew.

The island also hosts an array of curated experiences, with a central Village and Promenade featuring 38 culinary options by internationally renowned chefs, including daytime eateries, late-night venues and 36 luxury retail outlets. Entertainment options include the Beach Club, which transforms from a daytime poolside venue to an evening music lounge, and a beachfront Golf Club offering an 18-hole course across a 5,920-metre par 70 setup. Sindalah will offer an extensive range of luxury accommodation options, including 440 rooms, 88 villas, and 218 serviced apartments.
