New luxury retreat opens in New Zealand’s Rotorua Hills
The bespoke accommodation on New Zealand’s North Island features stunning views and offers opportunities for adventures in nature
Bespoke private retreat, Kārearea Nest, has opened in the Rotorua Hills on New Zealand’s North Island. The accommodation offers breathtaking views of Rotorua city, Lake Rotorua, Lake Okareka, and Mt Tarawera, providing an idyllic setting for couples seeking a tranquil getaway.
Tailor-made for an intimate stay, the retreat is designed for comfort and relaxation and includes a well-equipped kitchen, cosy bedroom and peaceful lounge with wood burner. Outside, the deck’s tranquil outdoor bath and hammock lets guests immerse themselves in the natural surroundings.
Rotorua has some of the world’s most magnificent geothermal hot pools and attractions, including Te Puia. The site features dramatic geysers like the iconic Pōhutu Geyser, bubbling mud pools, and surrounding bushland.
Te Puia is also home to the New Zealand Māori Arts and Crafts Institute and a Kiwi Conservation Centre. Guests can learn about the park’s history and heritage with local guides.
Rotorua provides ample opportunities for adventure. Kārearea Nest is near the Whakarewarewa Forest Mountain Bike Park, one of the country’s oldest mountain bike trails. Bike hire is available nearby. Non-riders can explore the park’s excellent walking tracks. Guests can also go river rafting on the nearby Kaituna River, including the famous 7-metre Tutea Falls, the highest commercially rafted waterfall in the world. Rotorua Ziplines offers exhilarating rides, and the mesmerising Redwood Nightlights Treewalk experience lets travellers wander under trees awash with light and colour.
