Belmond unveils the first luxury sleeper train in England & Wales

The Britannic Explorer will launch in July 2025 and operate three-night itineraries departing London through Cornwall, the Lake District and Wales

Belmond has announced the debut of its highly anticipated luxury sleeper train, The Britannic Explorer, set to launch in July 2025. This marks a significant milestone as the first luxury sleeper train to traverse England and Wales, and speaks to the demand among luxury travellers for experiences that tap into the ‘slow travel’ movement. 

The Britannic Explorer will traverse some of the region’s most iconic destinations, operating three-night itineraries departing London through Cornwall, the Lake District and Wales. Passengers will be treated to optional off-train excursions that showcase the natural beauty, history and culture of each destination, with highlights including private tours and dining experiences at Hauser & Wirth Somerset and its acclaimed restaurant Da Costa; an exclusive dining experience at the renowned Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons, A Belmond Hotel in Oxfordshire; a visit to the enchanting Tremenheere Sculpture Gardens in Cornwall; and guided hikes across the rugged landscapes of Wales. 

The train comprises a botanically inspired Observation Car, home to the train’s bar, and 18 meticulously designed cabins – including three Grand Suites and 15 Suites – that showcase British craftsmanship in a celebration of the golden age of rail travel. Renowned Chef Simon Rogan, whose restaurants hold an impressive tally of eight Michelin stars and two Green stars, will lead the dining experience aboard, while an on-board wellness suite will offer therapies designed to rejuvenate and relax.

Accommodation aboard the Britannic Explorer starts from £11,000 (about AUD$21,200) for a double cabin, including the three-night itinerary, guided excursions, meals and beverages.
