Mykonos’ Top 10 Most Photogenic Locations

This iconic Greek island isn’t short on options, offering azure waters, windswept beaches, decadent pools, authentic tavernas and historic white-washed buildings

This iconic Greek island isn’t short on options, offering azure waters, windswept beaches, decadent pools, authentic tavernas and historic white-washed buildings. Here are ten picture-perfect places to visit – and photograph –in Mykonos.

Little Venice

One of Mykonos’ most popular waterfront districts, Little Venice is home to charming restaurants, bars, cafes and boutiques. It is the perfect spot to capture the island’s village ambience and experience a legendary Mykonos pink sunset – ideally while sipping on cocktails on one of the beautiful balconies overlooking the sea.

George’s Bar at Myconian Kyma

Attracting a jet-set clientele bewitched by the hotel’s famous views of Little Venice and the windmills, the original George’s Bar is hip yet unpretentious. It is also one of the island’s original spots to see and be seen.

#HAPPINESS

It might be a quaint store but #Happiness has become a huge hit on a variety of social media platforms. It is tucked away among the cobblestone streets of Mykonos Town, but it is still bustling with tourists, so if you want a picture solo you will need to visit before your fellow travellers wake up.

Psarou & Platis Gialos

More chilled than Mykonos’ iconic party beaches, Psarou and Platis Gialos are a five-minute walk apart and perfect for snapping crystal clear waters, enjoying water sports and sun worshipping from the comfort of a beach lounger. The Myconian Ambassador Hotel also presents numerous photo opportunities with its location just steps from the sand of Platis Gialos, where a candlelit dinner at one of the island’s top tables, Efisia Relais & Châteaux is an essential experience in any Mykonos itinerary.

The Old Port, Mykonos Town

People-watching is a popular pastime at Mykonos’ old port, which blends narrow winding streets lined with cafes and shops with the comings and goings of catamarans, cruise ships, colourful fishing boats and sunset sailing cruises on the water. Another favourite spot to score that coveted pink sunset snap.

Phenomenal Pools

The magnificent infinity pools of the Myconian Collection of boutique hotels across Mykonos have become renowned as offering some of the most sought-after picture spots, thanks to their decadent decks, sun loungers and brilliant blue-on-blue views from the pool down to the sea below. From mirrored surfaces to underwater bars, waterfalls and glittering LED lights at night, the poolside bars and attentive service make it easy for days to disappear into nights without leaving the poolside. Favourites include the pools at the Royal Myconian Resort, Myconian Imperial Resort, Myconian Ambassador Hotel, Myconian Avaton Resort, Myconian Villa Collection and Myconian Utopia Resort.

Windmills

One of the most recognisable landmarks on Mykonos is its row of 16th century windmills, perched high on a hill above Mykonos Town (Chora) and enjoying a commanding view of the spectacular Alefkandra Harbour and Aegean Sea below. Known as one of the best spots from which to watch a gorgeous Greek Isles sunset, you’ll need to climb the hill early to get the best pictures.

Chora – Mykonos Town

Boasting the prettiest palette of blues and whites, together with bursts of bright bougainvillea, Mykonos Town, or Chora, is the spot if you’re looking for historic churches, hip boutiques, lively eateries and myriad maze-like cobbled streets – each one more picture-perfect than the next. Keep an eye out for the famous brightly coloured doorways, winding stairways and wandering cats.

Panagia Paraportiani

On the edge of the lively Kastro district by the sea stands one of the most photographed churches (or group of churches) not just in Mykonos, but anywhere. It’s easy to see how Panagia Paraportiani’s glorious white-washed good looks have made it visible all across social media platforms.

Sunset Terrace at Royal Myconian

Sink into a sofa on the panoramic Sunset Terrace at Royal Myconian, high above Elia Beach, and capture the changing views over the pool and Aegean as day sinks into night. Remember to snap a few of their colourful cocktails, too.
