Positioned between the vibrant jungle and the Caribbean Sea on Mexico’s Riviera Maya, the Belmond Hotel Maroma has been renovated and transformed into a holistic wellness retreat, boasting a brand-new Maroma Spa by Guerlain that honours Mayan culture.
Maroma Spa has been designed as a multi-sensory experience, according to the hotel and offers an exclusive, profoundly personal approach to beauty and wellness that resonates with its highly curated design direction.
“We are thrilled to be Guerlain’s first partner in Latin America…” said Federico Echaiz, Area Managing Director and General Manager of Maroma, A Belmond Hotel, Riviera Maya. “Maroma Spa by Guerlain is the perfect synergy of healing experiences celebrating Mayan culture alongside Guerlain’s unparalleled expertise in well-being for body, mind, and soul. We are delighted to share our holistic and pioneering wellness approach with our guests.”
The design was led by internationally renowned design studio Tara Bernerd & Partners, who enriched the semi-private sanitorium and nine treatment rooms with locally inspired design features.
On entering the Maroma Spa, the reception evokes an instant sense of relaxation, showcasing geometric shapes and artisanal objects, many of which have been bespoke and designed by Tara Bernerd & Partners, working in conjunction with local artisans. The semi-private spa facilities feature direct views of the jungle and an array of earth-tone hand-crafted pots filled with lush greenery, which contrast with the pops of ochre yellow, light blue and dark red throughout the furnishing. The treatment rooms themselves have been adorned in neutral tones and detailed wooden furniture, hues of rich teal blues and greens and hand-carved onyx stone hand basins.
Post-treatment amenities include a steam room and serene outdoor spaces, which showcase an array of healing plants and spiritual trees that lend to the emulation of a Japanese Zen Garden. The apothecary features bespoke shelves in rich, mid-toned timber and a floor inset with stones in a pattern of concentric circles, taking inspiration from the hives of the revered Melipona bee healing rituals, such as the Bee Healing Ritual – a honey-based treatment utilising Guerlain’s Abeille Royale collection – are inspired by natural elements.
The comprehensive treatment menu features exclusive and innovative Guerlain treatments, denoting scents, techniques and products inspired by the landscape. These include Purifying Cenote, a nurturing treatment to soothe and moisturise the skin inspired by the Riviera Maya’s cenotes, and Talisman of Immunity, an anti-aging holistic therapy that uses the revered Mexican sacred stone Black Orchid.
