Is this New Zealand lodge’s membership model the future of luxury travel?

The luxury lodge that dreams are made of, Waimarino is set to open on Queenstown’s Lake Wakatipu in 2026 – and its members will get the royal treatment

Waimarino Lodge, a luxury retreat nestled on the pristine shores of Lake Wakatipu in New Zealand, is redefining the world of high-end travel with its revolutionary membership program. Currently under construction in serene Bob’s Cove, Waimarino Lodge is set to open its doors in late 2026, but the buzz around its unique membership offering is already making waves.

The luxury of nature

The concept, owner Andrew McIntosh says, is to let the landscape be the star, and to that end have the retreat’s buildings almost disappear into their surrounds. This not only affords guests incredible privacy, but also offers the chance to elevate the property’s eco-credentials via living green roofs across each of the sleek modern buildings – all constructed to have minimal impact on the ecosystem. And it is particularly worth protecting in this stunning corner of New Zealand.

The attention to landscaping detail is evident the moment you step into your freestanding villa, with enormous picture windows framing Lake Wakatipu, meticulous gardens and the mountains behind. Every villa is the epitome of understated luxury, replete with generous living areas, indoor and outdoor fireplaces, a hidden alfresco tub for soaking and sophisticated styling.

The membership model that makes you feel like an owner

In a world where genuine connections are increasingly rare, Waimarino Lodge offers a membership experience that stands apart. With only a very limited number of memberships available, members will not merely visit the lodge—they will become part of its inner circle. This exclusivity fosters a deep sense of ownership and belonging, transforming each stay into a personalised homecoming.

Unlike traditional hotel loyalty programs or vacation clubs, Waimarino’s model is built on deep connections. Members will enjoy 20 nights of premium accommodation (or 80 nights for corporate members) with the freedom to use them flexibly throughout the 10 year term. More than just accommodation, the membership provides access to curated experiences, from dining under the stars to exclusive member events that build lasting bonds with staff, owners, and fellow members.

Experience driven

While the jaw-dropping design of the lodge is certainly head-turning, Andrew and his team are just as focused on delivering a standout portfolio of experiences at Waimarino. “We’re not just excited about the design and finally bringing that to life – we’re focused on creating experiences for our guests that redefine a visit to Queenstown,” he says.

“Tactile moments like meeting our chef in the garden and watching that fresh produce cooked over open fire, smoking trout just out of the lake – all those small details that truly connect our guests to nature, and we hope inspire connection with fellow guests.”

There really is no limit to the exclusive activities on offer. Think taking a helicopter to a mountain peak for cocktails (ask for one featuring the lodge’s own Still Waters Gin) and canapes as the sun sets over Queenstown. Or using one of the lodge’s luxury electric lake boats or e-bikes to reach a remote totally private location where a champagne picnic awaits.

Then return to the lodge to make the most of the state-of-the-art facilities including a serene day spa, sauna, fitness centre and space for yoga.

The economics of connection

For discerning travellers who once roamed the world with a backpack and made lifelong friends in hostel kitchens, Waimarino offers a sophisticated evolution of those experiences. It bridges the gap between youthful adventure and mature luxury, creating an environment where guests can reconnect with the magic of meeting like-minded people in a more refined setting.

The unique membership model is not only economical, but it also creates unparalleled value through its community-driven approach. Members are welcomed back by a team that knows them by name, understands their preferences, and genuinely cares about their experience.

The world’s first luxury lodge membership comes with an endless number of perks including 20 nights accommodation and use of the luxury electric vehicles during your stay – although the dreamy location alone is enough for many to sign up. That said, many will miss out – there are strict limits on member numbers, to keep the experience exclusive, and it’s only available for a limited time.

Memberships unlocks a curated suite of benefits, including a 20 nights’ accommodation at the lodge, all dining and select spa treatments; culinary experiences available only to members; complimentary Still Waters Gin; and access to a dedicated concierge to assist you organising out-of-this world adventures. All for a price that works out to be more than a 55% discount on the regular nightly rate.

“It is pretty special being able to create something like this in this part of the world,” says Andrew. We have to agree.

Become a Waimarino Member today – numbers are strictly limited, and you don’t want to miss out on this extraordinary offer. The first 20 Founding Members will receive a complimentary upgrade from a villa to the Owners residence for 1 night valued at over $25,000NZD.
