The much-anticipated luxury hotel on Darling Harbour will open its doors on 12 October.

W Hotels has announced that its Sydney property will officially open on 12 October, bringing a new five-star hospitality offering to Darling Harbour.

When it opens, W Sydney’s imposing glass-fronted architecture is set to house 585 rooms and suites; 29/30, a two-storey rooftop bar; a 30-metre heated infinity pool overlooking the harbour, W’s AWAY spa concept; and a signature restaurant.

“W Hotels is a brand that was born in New York but destined for Sydney. The pulse of the city is so aligned with the W spirit — the sense of originality and curiosity, the unique take on luxury, the bold attitude. Eclectic and unexpected, this new hotel will be a beacon for the harbour, a hub of constantly evolving experiences and exciting spaces that unfold from morning till late and are deeply connected to the life of the city. We can’t wait to share W Sydney with our guests when we open our doors on 12 October”, said General Manager, Craig Seaward.

W Sydney will be the third Australian property for the group after W Brisbane, which opened in 2018, and W Melbourne, which debuted in 2021.

Design notes

Interiors at W Sydney have been conceptualised by London-based designer, Bowler James Brindley, to include contemporary shapes, and textures, with vibrant palettes that recall the hotel’s city and waterfront surroundings.

Local artists, designers, and creatives were commissioned to enliven the guest spaces, such as a ‘tattoo of stars’ seen in the guestroom corridors, designed by local Australian-Ukrainian artist Stanislava Pinchuk; and colourful pieces painted in the restaurant by muralist, Sophi Olding. Celebrity stylist Jess Pecoraro has curated the hotel staff uniforms.
