The harbourside stay has undergone significant changes over the past five years, including opening an award-winning restaurant, adding seasonal guest festivities and redesigning its rooms and suites

Marriott’s Pier One Sydney Harbour has announced it will complete its $10 million-dollar heritage refurbishment by September 2019, which includes major redesigns to all its rooms and suites.

“The design transformation of our rooms marks the final piece of the puzzle for an exciting journey for the hotel,” said Kim Mahaffy, general manager of the luxury hotel. “We are now one of Sydney’s pre-eminent lifestyle hotels, with a luxurious, yet accessible offering for guests looking for a distinctively Sydney experience right on Sydney Harbour. By working with a design firm that is renowned for their heritage renovations, we hope to bring this to life for our guests, with a focus on sourcing Australian and locally-made materials and furniture.”

With its top suites offering unbeatable views floating above the Harbour, the hotel accommodation will receive a complete design overhaul by heritage architecture firm Tonkin Zulaikha Greer, which has taken its design inspiration from the glistening harbour and rich maritime history central to Pier One.

Marriott International took over Pier One Sydney Harbour in February 2014 as part of its Autograph Collection portfolio and has since undertaken a series of major renovations of the central facilities including entry lobby, bar, restaurant and conferencing facilities.

The Gantry Restaurant opened in early 2015 to critical acclaim, earning its reputation as one of Australia’s most highly-regarded hotel restaurants, while The Kerrigan, a harbourside pop-up smoke house providing Australian BBQ-style fare in a casual waterside setting, opened in 2016.

The following year, Pier One Sydney Harbour debuted a series of activations intended to connect the hotel with unique Sydney experiences for guests and visitors, including Igloos on the Pier during Winter; The Pool by Pier One, a harbourside pool during Summer; and The Retreat by Pier One, celebrating wellness and mindfulness during February and March.
