Cape Town’s revamped silo

The transformation of Cape Town’s historic grain silo building will be complete on 1 March, 2017 when it opens its doors as Royal Portfolio collection’s newest luxury hotel. Housed in the grain elevator portion of the silo building, originally built in 1924, the 28-suite hotel has been designed by Thomas Heatherwick and offers guests expansive views of Table Mountain and the Atlantic Ocean.

Pillowed glass windows have been incorporated into the original architecture of the upper floors, a design feature that blends contemporary design and the building’s industrial past. The hotel will feature an opulent penthouse, a spa with five treatment rooms, Willaston Bar and Granary Café on the sixth floor and a rooftop bar and restaurant.

The hotel is housed above what will be the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa (MOCAA), which when completed, will hold the world’s largest collection of contemporary African art.
