Concierge Recommends

The Knickerbocker hosts a dazzling NYC New Year's Even Celebration. Even back in 1906, when The Knickerbocker Hotel first hosted revellers as they watched the crystal ball drop, ringing in the New Year in Times Square was a big deal. Nestled on the corner of 41st and Broadway, The Knick offered privileged party-goers a glamorous escape from the masses to usher in the New Year. Champagne, lobster, and bursts of laughter filled the chambers as the ball descended in Times Square.

A century later, the Swarovski ball drop is one of the nation's favourite traditions, and each year, The Knick hosts an uber-exclusive soiree atop St. Cloud where bon vivants can watch the ball drop.

Weather to go

New York experiences its prime weather from May to October with warm, sunny days the result of a humid subtropical climate. New York in the springtime (March-May) is accompanied by light winds, rain and cool to very warm temperatures, while summer (Jun-Aug) is characterised by hot, sunny days and late sunsets. The gorgeous autumnal leaves of fall make it a popular time to visit with layers recommended to keep warm in cool and crisp temperatures. The first snows usually appear in December, with winter (Dec-Feb) temperatures below freezing. Occasional snowstorms, freezing rain and bitter cold winds mean heavyweight clothing is a necessity for travellers heading to NYC travel in winter.
